LOL! No I'm not joking! When we first got married, we had no running water and no bathroom. First love is so all consuming that material things just don't have the same importance as they do when people are in their 'right' minds! LOL! Within a few weeks, we did get running water in the house. We built a 4' x 4' tin shower stall on the back of the house next to the back door steps. Yes, it was outside, too! Just not over the fence like the outhouse was. I remember my brother saying once that he would have liked to live back in the old days when outhouses were the norm. My response was, "It's obvious that you have never been 8 months pregnant and had to climb a fence in the middle of a cold January night to use the bathroom!" Ha! Ha! He had no response to that!
I wanted to point out that our outhouse was more unique than most. It doubled as a hen nest as well as a toilet. Can't imagine why that crazy chicken would want to lay her eggs there, but she was determined regardless of how many times we tried to change her mind. If you look close, you can see her egg laying there on the seat.
The moral of the story is . . . COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS! :)
