Teaching Tuesday / You Are A Chosen Parent

Have you ever watched children playing games choosing partners or teams? They choose by who's my friend; who's the best; or possibly who they are sweet on? Have you ever wondered why God chose you to parent your child/children? I certainly have!

"Lord, why in the world did You choose me to parent 28 children?"

His answer to us both is so profoundly simple, yet simply profound . Listen up . . .

A few years back, I was pondering the blessedness of Mary, Jesus' mother. How special she must have been! The awesome privilege and responsibility to have been chosen to parent God's Son. Wow! Then quietly Holy Spirit whispered, "But I've chosen YOU to raise my sons and daughters, also!" Those words stopped me dead still. "What?" And then in His wonderful way, Holy Spirit began to teach me.

"Bonnie, every parent has been CHOSEN and given the awesome privilege and responsibility of parenting God's sons and daughters, just like Mary."

Just let that sink in a few minutes. God picked you to raise His little son, His little daughter! Just the thought brings tears of humility to my eyes. All the times I should have reassured His little daughters instead of screaming at them for spilling their milk. The times I should have lovingly guided and instructed His little sons instead of giving them a tongue lashing that tore their self-esteem to shreds. I don't know about you, but it makes repentance and humbleness flood my soul. Thank God for His Grace and Mercy.

He chose me - He chose you - to raise His children. Would we speak to little Johnnie or Susie in the same exasperated, angry tone of voice if we were walking in this revelation that they are God's children? And what about teenagers, would we launch into a furious tirade for the 1000th time about their rooms not being clean, or would we lovingly, firmly, and consistently teach them good stewardship? I repeat it again. God, the GOD of the entire universe has chosen YOU to raise HIs children. Is that not the most sobering thought ? You are SPECIAL, HAND-PICKED, just like Mary, to parent God's children!

You are a CHOSEN PARENT! Chosen by Father God as the PERFECT, imperfect parent for your child or children! Yes, you are going to make mistakes; we all do! But God is bigger than our mistakes. My constant prayer in my 20's (before inner healing and deliverance) was " Lord, make something beautiful out of my messes!" I knew I was a mess, but God was so faithful, and so much bigger than me being a rage-aholic and trapped in a multitude of sin and fears! He answered my prayers and He will answer yours!

Let's Pray:

Father God, Thank You for choosing me to raise Your precious son/daughter. Help me to remember the awesome gift/gifts that You have given me. I choose this day as Your Chosen Parent for my child/children to raise them with You in mind! Please, give me the wisdom I need to raise them in love, patience, and understanding. And Lord, make something beautiful out of my messes! in Jesus' name!
