Granddaughters Britsadie (Josey & Ernesto's) and Natalie (Weston & Mindy's) are having a big time helping Nonnie make a dirt cake. There are few things more valuable to our children's character building than learning the art of teamwork. The give and take of sharing, taking turns, and just interacting together amicably are valuable life skills that they will use the rest of their lives.
These two are working together beautifully. Whipping by hand the instant pudding used in dirt cake. I got tickled at them trying to figure why we were making a dirt cake if it wasn't someone's birthday. It's my hope that when they are grown they will cherish the memory of making dirt cake at Nonnie's house. Whether they do or not, it's still building their characters toward teamwork.

Olivia and Janiah have joined our team of merry cooks since school is out for the day. We are preparing to assemble our dirt cake. As with any good team, each member of the team has a task, and they know how and when to complete it. Janiah and Britsadie are in charge of adding the different colors of dirt (puddings) to our cake. Olivia is layering with Oreo rocks. Last but not least, Natalie has the awesome responsibility of adding the worms (gummies, of coarse!).
They are having so much fun. Look at those smiling faces. Could I have made it better? What about faster? Affirmative to both questions! But what about the lessons that my daughters and granddaughters learned . . . PRICELESS! I can assure you that because they invested their time and energy into it, that dirt cake tasted far more yummy to them than if I had of prepared it on my own (that plus the fact that a few worms didn't make it into the cake, LOL!).

Such serious dedication to detail. Everyone dirt cake maker knows the importance of placing each worm in the exact perfect location, and these 4 chefs are no exception.
In Genesis 11 : 6 it says in reference to the Tower of Babel being built,
"And the Lord said, 'Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do: now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.' "
The Lord said this in regards to a disobedient people. He had told them to depart, spread out, and fill the earth, but they chose instead to stay put and build a tower to heaven. Think on this. If teamwork is powerful enough that the Lord would say that nothing will be impossible to the disobedient, how much more would that be true about Christians teaming up to work together to bring God's Kingdom to earth! Just another reason to teach our children teamwork .

And here you have the finished product of any good teamwork . . .
satisfaction for a job well done, the pleasure of having successfully accomplished a task, and the joy that being part of an effective team brings!
Yep! Teamwork works . . . in a multitude of ways! . . .
All that's left is to grab the spoons and dig in! Yummy and fun! Unbeatable combination!
