Teaching Tuesday / Teach Forgiveness

Olivia, very tickled with her German flour biscuits!

ree

We spend so much time teaching our children, and most of the time we do not even realize that we are TEACHING.

My girls have really been into baking and competing in bake-offs with some very dear friends. The girls were having to look up German words in a German dictionary before they could even figure out the German recipe. Both of us moms laughed, because the kids didn't realize that they were learning and doing school. They were just having fun! Or so they thought.

As parents, one of the things that we need to be intentional about is teaching our kids about forgiveness - about the importance of forgiving others.

Here's Olivia sampling that first bite of her homemade biscuits- Are they as good as Ms. Rose's?

I counsel adults every week that are still hurting from unforgiven childhood trauma and woundings. No one ever told them the importance of forgiveness. That the enemy of our souls will use the door of unforgiveness to kill, steal, and destroy in our lives if we allow unforgiveness to fester in our hearts. I think Joyce Meyers says it best,

"Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and thinking it will kill the other person."

Jesus commands us to forgive others. Not so much for them as for ourselves, so that the enemy doesn't have a foothold in our lives - an open door through which to attack us.

Forgiveness is NOT "feeling" like I want to run hug that person's neck that hurt me. FORGIVENESS IS A CHOICE TO OBEY OUR JESUS! I simply choose to obey Him and RELEASE the person that hurt me. I choose to stop wanting to punish them, get even with them, or make them suffer in any way.

Wow! I believe these are as good as Ms. Rose's biscuits!!!

Jesus teaches us to bless our enemies. That doesn't mean I have to want to hang out with them now since I've forgiven them. I can bless them in prayer, interceding for their salvation and deliverance. That's blessing them! More than they need me to make them some cookies (do a good deed for them) - they need to know my Jesus and the peace and joy that He brings. I can intercede for them to know Him (bless them spiritually)!

After I do that, then I need to apply Jesus' Blood to the hurt memory that causes me so much pain. His Blood heals the wound and the pain is gone! So simple! So easy!

So simple a child can learn it!

- Choose the obedience of forgiveness by releasing the person

- Bless the person

- Apply Jesus' Blood to the wound or memory causing the pain

In that order! 1,2,3 and your inner healing has begun!

One of the greatest things that you will ever teach your child is the not the art of baking homemade biscuits, but the art of forgiveness! It will nourish a lifetime of blessings!
