I was outside at the rising of the last full moon. I was so in awe at the wonder that I grabbed my phone and ran to the top of the hill to get a better picture. As I stood watching God’s handiwork, a conversation with one of my young children came to mind.
Somehow the fact that the moon doesn’t shine - that it reflects the sun’s light - had eluded my child. Standing there in the moonshine, it occurred to me that we are supposed to do that. We are supposed to REFLECT the SON’s Light in a dark world.
Think about it. Through no effort or work on its part the moon reflects the sun’s light enough to light up everything on the earth below! Just being positioned correctly is all it takes to make the darkness flee. That's also all it takes for us to reflect Jesus' light and love - just being postponed in His presence.

Depending on its orbit, it's position, sometimes you can only see a sliver of the moonshine, and sometimes none at all. I did a little research and discovered that the moon only reflects 3 to 12 percent of the sun's light that is directed at it. At the very most 12% is all that it has the capability to reflect. The moon doesn't have a say so in the amount of moonshine it reflects. Moonshine is all pre-ordained and determined by an Awesome Creator that set in motion the times, seasons, and orbits of its time and ability to shine.
Not so with us dear brothers and sisters! WE are given everything we need to SHINE like the SON - GOD's Son, Jesus! WE get to choose. WE decide how much, or how little, we reflect the Son's light of love into this dark world. I choose! You choose! And whether we like it or not, our children are shaped by our choices! What they see us doing will lay a blueprint (set an orbit, so to speak) for how much light they will reflect of the Son.
Having been blessed with assisting Father God in the raising of 28 children, I can say to you with all certainty, children see and copy everything that you do - the good, the bad, and everything in between - from hand motions, mannerisms, how you respond to pressures, and on and on the endless list goes. Dear Parents, if we don't show them how to reflect Jesus' light of love in this dark world who will? Let's humble ourselves and repent of the times we have modeled darkness to them instead of light. Dust off our knees, and set our faceS like flint to REFLECT JESUS. YOUR CHILDREN WILL CATCH THE RAYS OF YOUR REPENTANCE AND BE DRAWN INTO THE PRESENCE OF HIS LIGHT AND LOVE!
Can you imagine a world where every Christian was reflecting 100% of Christ's love?!?! What a different world we would have! LET'S START BEING MOONSHINE FOR JESUS REFLECTING HIM IN THIS WORLD!
