Teaching Tuesday / Are You Hungry?

Janiah, Elijah, and Olivia enjoying bottle feeding the new dairy calves!

The kids are so excited about their new money-making pets! It's been a long time since we had bottle fed calves. Actually, our three youngest children have never had the pleasure to experience such an adventure. They are truly ecstatic, especially Olivia. It would seem, that like Katrina, she got a triple dose of my Mothering Anointing! She mothers everything!

Not just fun, this endeavor is also very educational while teaching responsibility as well. So it's definitely a win/win. The kids are responsible for feeding the calves three times a day. One of them asked, but what if they aren't hungry. Billy laughed and replied, " Don't you worry they are always hungry!" I was pondering that, and it got me to thinking.

Wouldn't it be neat if we were always spiritually hungry, like the calves always want a bottle. In Matthew 5:6, Jesus says,

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." (NKJV)

Some translations say, "for they shall be satisfied". The Passion Translation says it this way,

"How enriched you are when you crave righteousness! For you will be surrounded with fruitfulness."

I don't know about you, but I long to hunger and thirst for righteousness. Then Father God can fill me up and I'll be surrounded with His fruitfulness. Look at what I Peter 2:2 says,

"In the same way that nursing infants (and baby calves) cry for milk, you must intensely crave the pure spiritual milk of God's Word. For this "milk" will cause you to grow into maturity, fully nourished and strong for life." (TPT)

Those baby calves would die without their bottles of milk. Did you know dear Parents, that without feasting on God's Word you will die spiritually? You might not notice it at first. Just like Adam and Eve in the garden, you may be asking, "We won't really die?" But spiritual death did come to them. They became separated from God's Presence. When we, like them, make bad choices, we come out of God's Kingdom of Righteousness, Peace and Joy (Romans 14:17). Honestly, I've tried parenting while not in His Kingdom, and the results have never been pretty or productive for either me or my children. To be the parent that God has called us to be, we must HUNGER for HIS WISDOM and FEAST ON THE PROMISES FOUND IN HIS WORD! It's just that simple.

And if for any reason your aren't HUNGRY for His Word . . . all you have to do is ask Him to make you hungry! I promise you that He will quickly answer that request. Nothing would give Him more pleasure than to feed you - His HUNGRY CHILD! Just ask! He promises that you will receive what you ask for in Jesus' name (Matthew 7:7).
