The Mother of Many Children
by: Bonnie Walker
The mother of many children
Is what You said I'd be;
"I'll make you the mother of many children,"
Is how You comforted me.
My heart was near to breaking
The day You told me that;
As you gently and lovingly reached down
And gave my shoulder a pat.
The comfort that I felt,
The peace that filled my soul,
The joy that this brought
Can't be measured or even told.
The mother of many children,
How my soul longs to be;
How many will be enough, Lord?
Ten? Fifteen? Possibly Twenty?
No one understands, Lord,
No one but You and me.
Please fill up this hole, Lord,
Aching inside of me.
I am so very grateful
For the five You've given me,
For the three that I've borrowed,
If only temporarily.
But oh, how my heart yearns
For more feet beneath my table,
And more hungry mouths to feed.
More children, Lord, You're able.
You know, Lord,
They call me crazy, but that's okay by me.
I'm going to keep on being Your servant
For all the world to see.
Dear Lord, my prayer to You now,
Is what'er Your will may be.
Dear Lord, help me be ready
For any possibility.
Guide my thoughts and feet, Lord,
And do not let me step.
Not one inch away, Lord,
From the path that You have kept.
